Spätestens seit der Ermordung von Jina Mahsa Amini ist die notwendige Kritik an der Islamischen Republik Iran auch in Deutschland angekommen – aus Sicht vieler Exil-Iraner*innen viel zu spät, denn Amini war nicht das erste Opfer des Regies. Der 7. Oktober 2023 hat eine tiefe Wunde in Israels

Gesellschaft hinterlassen und international eine Welle des Antisemitismus ausgelöst: Angriffe, Schmierereien und das Schweigen zu den sexualisierten Gewalttaten der Hamas gegen jüdische Frauen* sind Ausdruck davon.

Was bedeutet es also, dass zunächst gegen das iranische Regime protestiert wird und anschließend auf einer Kundgebung zum Gedenken an die Opfer des 7. Oktobers Fahnen eines freien Iran geschwenkt werden? Es zeigt: Solidarität ist möglich und notwendig – gegen Unterdrückung, gegen Antisemitismus. Gerade jetzt, da Israel und Iran in aktivem Konflikt stehen, braucht es klare Stimmen für eine freie Gesellschaft, in der alle sicher leben können.

At least since the murder of Jina Mahsa Amini, the need for criticism of the Islamic Republic of Iran has finally reached Germany – from the perspective of many Iranian exiles, however, this came far too late, as Amini was not the regime's first victim. The 7th of October 2023 left a deep wound on Israeli society and sparked an international surge of antisemitism: attacks, graffiti, and the silence about Hamas' sexualized violence against Jewish women are only a few examples.

So what does it mean when people begin by protesting against the Iranian regime and then go on to wave flags for a free Iran at a rally commemorating the victims of October 7? It shows that solidarity is possible and necessary — against oppression and against antisemitism. Especially now, when Israel and Iran are in open conflict, we need strong voices calling for a free society in which everyone can live safely.
