Vielleicht kann man ein choreografisches Werk nicht sprachlich erklären. Vielleicht sollte man das auch nicht. Auf die Frage, wovon das Werk handelt, lautet die richtige Antwort: Nun, ich habe keine Ahnung, wir müssen abwarten und werden es sehen. Das Einzige, das bei einer Choreografie von Emanuel Gat vorher festgelegt ist, ist das WIE. Das WAS, das WOVON und das WARUM sind alles Elemente, die sich aus dem Geschehen heraus ergeben.

Die Frage, worum es in einer choreografischen Arbeit geht, ist fast, als würde man vor Beginn eines Fußballspiels fragen, wie der Spielstand ist. Trotzdem enthält die Einladung zu so einem Live-Erlebnis das, was tatsächlich bereits entschieden ist. Emanuel Gats Arbeit mit der Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company wird sich mit zwei Liedern aus Gustav Mahlers Liederzyklus „Das Lied von der Erde“ beschäftigen. Zwei Abschnitte mit den Liedern „Der Einsame im Herbst“ und dem letzten aus dem Zyklus „Der Abschied“ umrahmen einen dritten, zentralen Teil ohne Musik. Bei jeder Aufführung völlig anders, folgt das Werk Prinzipien, nach denen die choreografische Zukunft nicht vorgeschrieben werden kann.

Sie muss von den Tänzer*innen jedes Mal neu entdeckt werden, wenn sie sich auf die Arbeit einlassen. Willkommen zu diesem Erlebnis!

Emanuel Gat wurde 1969 in Israel geboren und begann 1994 als unabhängiger Choreograf zu arbeiten. In den folgenden zehn Jahren hat Gat durch zahlreiche Projekte, Kollaborationen und Kreationsprozesse einen einzigartigen und persönlichen Ansatz für Choreografie und Tanz entwickelt, der die Grundlagen für seine künstlerische Vision und sein kreatives Schaffen bildet. Er gründete seine Kompanie Emanuel Gat Dance im Jahr 2004 in Tel Aviv und ließ sich später in Frankreich nieder.

Gats von der Kritik gelobte Arbeiten wurden in den vergangenen 25 Jahren von führenden Tanztheatern und -festivals auf der ganzen Welt präsentiert, getanzt von seinem langjährigen starken und vielfältigen Ensemble. Parallel zu seiner choreografischen Arbeit entwirft Gat die Beleuchtung für all seine Werke und macht sie zu einem integralen Bestandteil seines kreativen Prozesses. Während seiner gesamten Laufbahn hat Gat ein reichhaltiges methodisches Instrumentarium und einen originellen pädagogischen Ansatz für das Tanzschaffen entwickelt. Er wird regelmäßig eingeladen, an den weltweit führenden Tanzschulen und -institutionen zu unterrichten und mit ihnen zusammenzuarbeiten. Gleichzeitig bietet Emanuel Gat Dance jungen Tänzer*innen und Künstler*innen regelmäßig die Möglichkeit, durch Praktika, Workshops und Meisterkurse in seine Praxis einzutauchen.

Perhaps a choreographic work cannot be explained in words. Perhaps it shouldn't be. When asked what the work is about, the correct answer is actually: Well, I have no idea, we'll have to wait and see. In a choreography by Emanuel Gat, the only thing that is ever set in advance is the HOW. The WHAT, the WHAT ABOUT, and the WHY are all elements that arise out of the event itself.

Asking what a choreographic work is about is almost like asking what the score is before a soccer game has even started. And yet, the invitation to this kind of live experience already contains what has actually been decided. Emanuel Gat's work with the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company will feature two songs from Gustav Mahler's song cycle Das Lied von der Erde (The Song of the Earth). Two sequences featuring the songs "Der Einsame im Herbst" (The Lonely Man in Autumn) and the last song from the cycle "Der Abschied" (The Farewell) will form the framework for the third main part, which will be performed without music. Each performance will be completely different, as the work follows principles that do not allow the choreographic future to be predetermined.

The dancers must rediscover the work anew each time they engage with it. Welcome to the experience!

Emanuel Gat was born in Israel in 1969 and began working as an independent choreographer in 1994. Over the subsequent ten years, Gat has developed a unique and personal approach to choreography and dance through numerous projects, collaborations, and creative processes, forming the basis for his artistic vision and creative work. He founded his company, Emanuel Gat Dance, in Tel Aviv in 2004 and later settled in France.

Over the past 25 years, Gat's critically acclaimed works have been presented by leading dance theaters and festivals around the world and have performed by his long-standing, dynamic and diverse ensemble. In parallel with his choreographic work, Gat also designs the lighting for all his works, making it an integral part of his creative process. Throughout his career, Gat has developed a rich methodological toolkit and an original pedagogical approach to creating dance. He is regularly invited to teach and collaborate at the world's leading dance schools and institutions. At the same time, Emanuel Gat Dance regularly offers young dancers and artists the opportunity to immerse themselves in his practice through internships, workshops, and masterclasses.
